Monday Morning Box Office Report: Wreck-It Ralph Hits Weekend High Score

It was a big weekend for Disney, who made up for some of the year’s earlier disappointments with a massive debut from the animated flick Wreck-It Ralph. The movie earned just under $50 million which is the best opening ever for a Disney Animation movie and proves that, in this case, it isn’t just a small group of fans who are interested in retro video games. Robert Zemeckis’ Flight also soared with $25 million despite playing on less than 2000 screens, pushing Argo down to #3. RZA’s The Man with the Iron Fists opened to a mediocre $8.2 million and Taken 2 rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, Cloud Atlas continued to disappoint with just $5.3 million in its second weekend and seems likely to fall right off the map by next week. Next weekend, Skyfall hits stateside, adding to the $287 million it has already earned overseas.
