Hitchcock Trailer Starring Anthony Hopkins

With Julian Jarrold’s The Girl set to premiere on HBO later this month, Fox Searchlight has released the first trailer for their own Alfred Hitchcock biopic, entitled simply Hitchcock. This one stars Anthony Hopkins in the lead role (wearing plenty of prosthetics) with Helen Mirren playing his wife Alma. Unlike The Girl, which focuses on his relationship with Tippi Hedren and the shooting of The Birds, Hitchcock revolves around the making of Psycho with Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh.

Based on this trailer, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about Anthony Hopkins’ performance so far. It seems a little goofy and distracting, but something tells me it will be highly praised just because he looks so different. Either way, I am definitely interested in the story, and it’s kinda cool that this movie is directed by Sacha Gervasi, the same guy who brought us the amazing documentary Anvil: The Story of Anvil. Hitchcock hits select theatres on Nov. 23rd; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Looks interesting. Better than what I imagined. Hopkins didn’t bother me until that last 5 seconds. Something about the delivery came off terrible. Maybe just an out-of-context trailer thing.

It’s sad to say it, but both of the films about Hitchcock look really mediocre.

This looks awesome. I had low expectations after your write-up, but I’m on board the Hitchpotkins express.

looks great! Love Mirren! and Hopkins too! will definitely catch this.

But can we not hire Scarlett Johansson anymore…the woman cannot act for the life of her.

This is definitely not what I was expecting. Looking forward to it. Just watched the 39 Steps last night, maybe there could be a Hitchcock premium before this bad boy comes out?

  • Probably not, but maybe next year.

    He needs more sag.

  • That looks pretty amazing. This just went near the top of my want to see list.

I’m glad that they are doing a lot with Hitchcock’s wife. I’ve heard she was a real interesting person who was brutally honest when it came to her husband’s work.

Anvil was amazing, so I don’t see any reason not to get excited. Also a fan of the stuff in there with Helen Mirren.

Looks like every other shallow Hollywood bio movie. Scar Jo looks to be miscast yet again (as Janet Leigh? C’mon!)and I agree, she is usually terrible. I’ve read Rebello’s Psycho book and was optimistic about this, until now. Of course its only a trailer and I could be wrong…

I think I backed the wrong horse and thought this one would flop. Now I’ve flipped sides. Could be the best Anthony Hopkins I’ve seen in ages.

  • Yup, best Hopkins since… Hannibal?
