Drafthouse Films Goes Grindhouse with Trailer War

Capping off a big week for new trailers, here’s a trailer for an upcoming compilation film made up entirely of trailers! This December, Drafthouse Films will be releasing Trailer War, a collection of rare, vintage 35mm trailers for various genre films presented in HD. The release will partially benefit The American Genre Film Archive, an organization dedicated to preserving exploitation films.

This is not a documentary in the vein of Not Quite Hollywood or Machete Maidens Unleashed, nor is it a Grindhouse-style homage full of fake trailers. It is quite literally a bunch of authentic original trailers strung one after the other. Trailer War will hit select theatres in December before being released on DVD and Blu-ray on Dec. 18th. Check out the very NSFW trailer after the jump and see what you think!

As much as I love exploitation films and grindhouse trailers I question the necessity of this with the 42nd Street Forever releases from Synapse. The selection of titles here seems pretty weak as well. I am also curious which “select theaters” will be showing this. I am guessing Alamo Drafthouse cinemas or repertory houses in major U.S. cities as I guarantee no theaters around my parts will be showing it.

Sometimes I feel like watching exploitation films isn’t that fun and feels more like ‘paying your dues’. I’ve been to some 24hr marathons that seemed like a good idea but 9hrs in I just want to kill myself. So this as a Blu-ray is a pretty sweet option. 90mins of insanity that falls through my head, or bite sized chunks of inspiration that I can emulate later on. I find this material is way more enjoyable on my own terms.
