Nature Calls Trailer Starring Patton Oswalt and Johnny Knoxville

Up until this week, I hadn’t even heard of Nature Calls, an upcoming R-rated comedy starring Patton Oswalt, Johnny Knoxville and Rob Riggle. Normally I would assume it’s just another Happy Madison production like Grown Ups or Strange Wilderness, but after seeing that Magnolia picked up the North American rights for their genre arm Magnet Releasing, my interest was suddenly piqued. Now that I’ve seen the first red band trailer, I think there could actually be something here, although I’m not quite sure it deserves to be counted alongside The Bad News Bears and Meatballs as the press release implies.

The story revolves around two brothers named Randy (Oswalt) and Kirk (Knoxville) who don’t particularly get along. When Randy’s son has a sleepover party, Kirk decides to step in and take all the boys on an impromptu scout trip to remember. Directed by Todd Rohal (The Catechism Cataclysm) and executive produced by David Gordon Green, it seems like it could make an interesting foul-mouthed companion piece to Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom. Although many of the recent R-rated comedies have missed the mark for me, something about this one seems so out there that I’m fully on board. Nature Calls hits VOD on Oct. 4th and select theatres on Nov. 9th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I usually enjoy both Patton Oswalt and Robb Riggle, but this trailer did nothing for me. The movie just doesn’t look like it’s going to be all that funny.

Oh man this actually looks kind of ridiculously amazing. Riggle always brings the funny.
