Universal Confirms Ted and Bourne Sequels in the Works

Outside of The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises, the general consensus seems to be that this year’s summer movie season was a disappointing one and that most of the non-comic book movies did not connect with audiences. Still, that hasn’t stopped Universal from moving forward with plans to turn a handful of their new movies into franchises. Just last week they announced that one of their February hits would be getting a sequel (the Ryan Reynolds / Denzel Washington thriller Safe House). Now it appears that they will follow through with more Bourne movies and also push Seth MacFarlane to come up with Ted 2 as soon as possible.

According to Deadline, NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke told analysts at the Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference in Beverly Hills that they would be playing things safe by promoting as many franchises as possible. He promised future Bourne movies, a Ted sequel, and even hinted at another possible American Pie movie (go figure). They are also planning on stepping up their efforts in computer animation, aiming for at least one animated film per year.

A sequel to The Bourne Legacy was clearly always in the cards, especially when you consider how much of the Jeremy Renner film was left open-ended. The fact that it has made just $104 million domestically on a $125 million budget does not seem to be a concern. As for Ted, it was definitely the biggest surprise of the summer and it is currently the sixth highest grossing movie of the year in the U.S. Who would have guessed that Ted would make more than MIB 3? What do you think, are you interested in seeing sequels to either of these films or are they more likely to offer diminishing returns?

Havent seen Ted but I would skip Bourne Legacy entirely. Very lackluster and boring

I will agree with Sean, this has been a pretty bad movie summer so far, probably the worst in a long while
