Red Dawn Trailer Starring Chris Hemsworth

Back when MGM filed for bankruptcy in 2010, they had a handful of films in post-production that unfortunately ended up getting shelved indefinitely. One of those movies was Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods, which finally hit theatres this past April, and another was MGM’s remake of John Milius’s 1984 action flick Red Dawn. Strangely, Chris Hemsworth stars in both films, and with this being released a year after Thor catapulted him to fame, it almost feels a little bit beneath him.

The first trailer for the new Red Dawn has finally arrived online, and generally speaking, it looks kind of bland. After all the controversy over changing the enemy from China to North Korea, it seems pretty inoffensive. Still, as impractical as it may be, I do think the premise of an invading army taking over the U.S. is a powerful one. Directed by Dan Bradley (stunt co-ordinator for the last two Bourne films), the cast also includes Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Red Dawn hits theatres on November 21st; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  • All this does is make me want to rewatch the original.

  • A foreign invasion of WA State never looked so boring. Seems something is lacking in all this.

  • I’ll also add that I’ve got co workers who look more threatening than the antagonist…

  • Welp. I’m bored.

The original is on Netflix (at least in the US). It’s been a looooong time since I saw it. Remember liking it as a kid but can barely remember much about it.

  • Derek McFarland

    PG-13? GODDAMNIT!!!

  • Zac

Josh Peck as Chris Hemsworth’s brother?

  • Kasper

This looks really, really uninteresting and bland.

  • La Menthe

    Invaded by North Korea? GTFO.

  • Kamen Liew

Two Chris Hemsworth pre-Thor films in a single year. That has got to be a record

  • Mrespony

The premise here is utterly ridiculous when you consider that the US has been steadily building it’s military for the last 20 years In the absence of even a trifling rival. An interesting remake would be a reversal of the roles, Red, White and Blue Dawn anyone?

  • Mrespony

Oh, I see. China and the DPRK have the magic weapon that makes everything go blooey! Makes sense now.

  • It’ll probably be just as ridiculous as the original, but (/so?) I think it looks like a great movie!

  • Mikey T

Someone should have asked if Hemsworth was able to do an American accent. There was a lot of “Aussie” in that American Northwest accent.

  • Stinker

Well, the score is by the guy who scored the first Iron man, so goodbye to a good Classic Score.

The Filmmaker comment that they want to make a !Call of Duty” kind of movie. Well i think it is a call of duty for a filmmaker to make a good film, and after seeing this trailer its failed mission. FUBAR all the way.

Hope good old John Milius got a lot of money.

Look forward to the Blu Ray of the 1984 Version.
