Fox Negotiating with Marvel for Daredevil Extension, Joe Carnahan to Direct?

Last month we reported that David Slade would no longer be directing Fox’s proposed Daredevil reboot based on Frank Miller’s Born Again storyline, and that the rights could soon revert back to Marvel if they don’t find a replacement soon. We now have an update on the situation and although they are close to signing a new director, they are still worried that they will not be able to get the movie in production before the October 10th deadline. Word on the street is that they are currently entering into some rather unorthodox negotiations that might involve trading a couple of comic book characters back to Marvel in exchange for an extension on that deadline. So what does Marvel consider to be a fair deal for the Daredevil license? How about… Galactus and Silver Surfer!

According to Variety, the man they want behind the camera is Joe Carnahan. He previously directed The A-Team for Fox and most recently directed the wilderness survival thriller The Grey starring Liam Neeson. He could be a very interesting choice, but it sounds like Fox is holding back on an official offer until they are sure that they will actually have enough time to make the movie.

Deadline has since reported that the talks between Fox and Marvel actually have nothing to do with swapping characters. The Josh Trank-directed Fantastic Four reboot is a much higher priority at the studio right now, so it doesn’t seem likely that they would give away the rights to Galactus, a key villain from that franchise. Apparently a potential co-financing deal for Daredevil is what they are looking for instead, and if that doesn’t happen, they will probably just let the rights lapse. What do you think, would Daredevil be worth giving up Galactus and Silver Surfer for? Would you like to see Joe Carnahan take on a Daredevil movie or would you prefer to see the character back in Marvel’s hands?

Daredevil is a great character that deserves another fair shake and Carnahan has proven to be a pretty awesome director. I say yay.

  • The “Born Again” storyline in Daredevil features Captain America in a very prominent role. I wonder if they will use him in the movie

I love that pic of Ol’ Ben. He looks like he’s going a leather fetish rave or something.
