It’s another sparse week for new releases on DVD and Blu-ray, but since I also missed last week’s update I will just cover both in one shot. This week there isn’t a single movie that received a major theatrical release but there was one last week: Silent House starring Elizabeth Olsen. Some of the smaller releases worth mentioning including Joseph Kahn’s demented slasher parody Detention, Mario Van Peebles’ high school comedy We The Party, and a slew of indie thrillers from IFC including ATM, Brake, and The Corridor. For TV releases we’ve got the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation remastered on Blu-ray, the first season of the dark British sci-fi series Misfits, and the Emmy-nominated mini-series Hatfields & McCoys starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton. Also on Blu-ray, check out the a new “mind-bending” edition of Total Recall, the Criterion release of Le Havre and a handful of Marilyn Monroe flicks. What will you be buying or renting this week?
