New to Theatres This Weekend: The Watch, Step Up Revolution, Killer Joe

There are two major releases out this weekend that have the unenviable task of trying to follow up The Dark Knight Rises; fortunately both are aiming for slightly different demographics. Akiva Schaffer’s The Watch will attempt to fill the void of noteworthy comedies in theatres this summer, a situation that paid off quite handsomely for Seth MacFarlane’s Ted. Meanwhile Step Up Revolution marks the fourth installment in this ridiculous yet consistently successful dance-oriented franchise. In select theatres we also have the indie dramedy Ruby Sparks starring Paul Dano, the raunchy Danish comedy Klown, and William Friedkin’s twisted noir-tinged thriller Killer Joe starring Matthew McConaughey.
