Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel Teaser Trailer

After hearing all of the great things people had to say about the Man of Steel footage shown at Comic-Con, I was very curious to see what the first trailer attached to The Dark Knight Rises would look like. Now they have released two slightly different versions of this teaser trailer online, and from what I understand, it is just a fraction of what was shown in San Diego. While I can appreciate the fact that a teaser trailer is intended to leave us wanting more, it still feels like they didn’t show nearly enough to match the epic level they were aiming for.

I think a lot of it has to do with the choice of music. Using a track from Howard Shore’s score for The Lord of the Rings is a ballsy move, and in my opinion it feels a little too sentimental without having the imagery to back it up. I do like both of the voiceovers, however; one provided by Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and the other from Russell Crowe as Jor-El. I just wish there was a little more to actually discuss here. Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel hits theatres on June 14th, 2013; check out the first two teaser trailers after the jump and let us know what you think.

Very interested in the crab fishing stuff. Less interested in the shaky cam flight footage.

Loved the teaser, although they should have done a third version with a Mike Rowe voiceover. And I’m not sure what the average moviegoer will think of it.

Also, the flight was not shakey-cam. BATTLE: LA was skakey-cam.

  • I don’t understand why they decided to focus on a whole hell of a lot of nothing going on. All the non-action on display hardly does anything to set it apart from “Returns”. It’s kind of a lousy first impression. While this trailer is surprisingly Malickian, it would be more intriguing without the DC logo at the beginning. As soon as you see that, you know this is for Superman, so the Superman reveal at the end isn’t much of a reveal at all.

  • Spooksta

    Its teaser not a pleaser

  • Spooksta

I should have said i like it. Think ill avoid all other trailers that come out over the next 8 months.Yes 8 months!
We often complain about trailers giving too much away. This teaser is perfect.
Look at Spiderman. I enjoyed the film but i felt id seen it all before going in by the overlong trailers.

  • Spooksta

ok 10 months + Maybe it was too early for a teaser!

  • patrik

Not much to say really.. Not that interested in seeing Clark Kent growing up. Nice LOTR music though.

  • Nathan

    Superman:Tree of Deadliest Catch

  • Steve Kasan

Majestic. Thats what I found both these two teasers to be. LOTR was a good choice, because, Superman is just that, majestic.

  • James

Minimalist, nicely filmed, artful and boring as all shite. We’ll get more closer to time.

  • kyri

what’s up with that cloud cone thing… is it supposed to represent braking the sound barrier? It looks weird. I would’ve been happy if they just ended it with the kid scene. no need for boring same old flying super-shit… They better find a way make that stuff more interesting.

  • dan day

How do people find it boring? It’s only 60 seconds! Serious ADD.

  • TheDia

It does exactly what a teaser should do. I´m tesed and I want MOOORRREEEEE. :)

  • Darksiders

Can’t believe people would complain about this. It’s a teaser, not a trailer.

I like the tone. I like the fisherman + childhood Malick inspired imagery. Costner’s VO is really fantastic, he’s got a evocative voice. Feel more adult and serious which is hopefully their direction.

I like it. I like it a lot.

  • Imagery aside, it’s almost exactly like the teaser for “Superman Returns”, and people didn’t dig that movie so much, hence why we’re here at “Man of Steel”. Would a shot of SOMETHING happening have killed it? Why not incorporate footage of some of the imagery we’ve already seen from the stills that were released way back when? To people that don’t know better (the people that you DO need to impress), it looks like it could be an even LESS interesting Superman movie than the last one.

Goyer, who has had a large chunk of the responsibility for the bad lines in TDKR, TDK and to a large extent BB, has written this film. He also wrote the screenplay for The Unborn, the Bllade films and Ghost Rider.

And then we have the director. This guy is nothing more than a visual director (he even calls himself that), and not a very good one either. Dawn of the Dead was bad (those of you who disagree remember too bad). Watchmen was only watchable (with the exception of the stories Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach, both of which were taken right out of the book, the film was not really good) because of the comic-book masterpiece that Moore and Higgens wrote and illustrated – Snyder only had to transform it to moving pictures. The owl film was acceptable because of its visual impressiveness (<– is that even a word?!), something which will fade out very quickly. Sucker Punch was nothing more than a big CGI-pile of shit. And we all liked 300 because it was nothing more than a visual action-fest. It wasn't good acting, good direction or good writing. Everything just happened to come together and work (although I doubt it still is as good if i rewatch it).

Both of them have had enough projects for us to decide their talent. Although not alike (Goyer is much worse, and probably the worst high-profile writer in Hollywood), one thing is certain: neither of them are good. And they are planning to direct a dark, serious and modern version of Superman.

So, guys, please be honest with yourselves: this film is not gonna be good.

Sry for the errors. I’m writing on my iPad ( ‘fuck you!’ to the guy who thought integrating the keyboard with the touch screen was a good idea).

  • “…that Moore and Higgens wrote and illustrated…”

    It was Gibbons, Dave Gibbons.

  • La Menthe

Sorry, forgot that Higgins (I also wrote his name wrong) only did the coloring. Thx for pointing it out.

    I don’t think that’s the Cost.. It’s Russel Crowe.

  • Johnny

Looks good so far. I hope its not too dark for Jay.

  • Justice

I really liked them. It looks (if we can judge it on a minute long teaser) like its trying to seperate itself from other superhero movies. I still worry about the tone with Nolan and Snyder overseeing it. I’ve said it before but Superman is a vastly different hero than Batman. Batman is who we fear we could become, Superman is who we inspire to be. I think the voiceovers play off that perfectly.

  • Xidor

There is no way to form any real opinion from this teaser. This was just to let the general audience know that the movie was in development and to give the hardcore superhero fans a taste of something to come in the distant future.

Will there be a John Williams music?

  • patrik

Oh, I see. There’s two different voice over trailers.. My bad.

  • swarez

Have people really forgotten the amazing reaction the Sucker Punch footage got at Comic Con? We should probably have learned by now not to trust anything that comes from Comic Con.
That being said, I love this teaser, but I also dug the Sucker Punch trailers so…
Let’s hope Znyder delivers the goods this time.

  • Maopheus

It had its effect in giving me chills. I’m pumped to see it. Obviously, we all want to see more. It’s their creative choice on what to show. But obviously teasers tease. We’ll have to wait until probably, oh, The Hobbit time to see a proper trailer? Or even before?

  • Bob

    Superman Begins

  • projectgenesis

Anyone get First Blood vibes with the hitchhiking, lumber trucks, etc?

  • La Menthe

Swarez, all of Snyder’s trailers have been good. Do you remember how good the Watchmen trailer was? Snyder is a visual director, he is good at creating short visual moments, something which is essential in film trailers.

But I’m telling you. All reasonable logic says this is gonna be average or not good. Snyder himself has made no film that can really be called good, and Goyer is, to put it frankly, complete shit.

  • Xidor

The teaser at comic con was a lot better.

I watched the comic con footage and learned the answer to my own question in that John Williams won’t be doing the score.

  • Napalm

Fucking majestic! I really think this will be a great film!

  • The little boy in the field feels very nostalgic and hits an emotional note, but otherwise this teaser feels a bit schizophrenic.. is it The Perfect Storm? Is it Gladiator? Do I care? I want to be excited for this movie but the dullness here is not helping.

  • fanfanfan

I think its really interesting…..its good that they are focusing on clark kent . Its always interesting to know proper origins ….more action can always be stuffed in the sequel……
