Weekly Poll Results: Best Alfred Hitchcock Movie

While most of Alfred Hitchcock’s works are hailed as great films, when push came to shove there were just four Hitchcock movies that seemed to matter in last week’s poll. Not surprisingly, it was Psycho that came out on top, by far his most well-known and influential work. However, as it turns out it just barely beat Rear Window and the two were close enough that it might as well be considered a tie. Together they made up for over 50% of the voting, although Vertigo and North by Northwest both had quite a few supporters as well. The rest of the choices were largely ignored, with Rebecca coming in dead last. Ironically, Rebecca is the only Hitchcock movie that ever won Best Picture. Go figure! What do you think… do you agree with these results?

1. Psycho — 26.4%
2. Rear Window — 26.1%
3. Vertigo — 17.9%
4. North by Northwest — 14.8%
5. The Birds — 6.4%
6. Strangers on a Train — 3%
7. Rope — 2.4%
8. The Lady Vanishes — 1.2%
8. The 39 Steps — 1.2%
10. Rebecca — 0.6%

A very solid top 5. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t seen 6-10. Btw when will the Batman premium be up?

  • Maopheus

The only one on the list I have not seen is The Lady Vanishes.

  • Batman premium should be up sometime later today. It’s been uploading since this morning.

    Rebecca is awesome.

It’s not like coming in last in a list of Hitchcock movies (and not even all of them) is a shame.

Rebecca is one of Hitchcock’s best movies, strange that it came in last. However, this is last of a top ten, not last of all his movies, and I guess it’s not as well known as some of his others, so…. *shrug*
Love all these movies. Psycho, Rear Window, Rebecca and Shadow of a Doubt are my favorite Hitchcocks, so it’s good to see that most of them made the list. But where is Shadow of a Doubt? Ironic that Hitchcock’s personal favorite of all his films wouldn’t be included.
