Johnny Depp Confirmed for Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel

Moonrise Kingdom is now Wes Anderson’s second highest-grossing film domestically and is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest indie hits of the year, which is great news if you happen to be a Wes Anderson fan. The success of this film will definitely help open doors for his future projects and it also seems to be inspiring him to get right back to work. Last week we heard some intriguing names being floated around as potential stars for his next movie, including Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Angela Lansbury. Now this week we have learned that Johnny Depp has officially signed on to star in the movie, and that it is apparently called The Grand Budapest Hotel.
According to Deadline, the script for The Grand Budapest Hotel is already written and Johnny Depp will indeed star in the film, possibly making it his next project after The Lone Ranger. The movie is expected to feature another large ensemble cast, so it’s still unclear if Depp is taking on the lead role. While there has been no confirmation regarding any of the other previously rumoured actors, Anderson himself has stated that Owen Wilson will also be involved after not taking part in Moonrise Kingdom.
The plot is still unknown, but I think it’s probably safe to assume that it will take place primarily inside a hotel, which seems to fit with Anderson’s usual habit of putting all of the characters together under one roof. Personally I’m just excited to see Johnny Depp return to something that isn’t a giant Disney blockbuster. He has given us some great comedic performances over the years, and I’m sure Wes Anderson will put those skills to good use, while Depp’s star power could also make this Anderson’s biggest film to date. Are you looking forward to The Grand Budapest Hotel?
