Well you know MMA is officially huge when Adam Sandler and Happy Madison Productions decide to make a comedy about it. Here Comes the Boom stars Kevin James as a lazy high school biology teacher who in danger of losing his job. When the school’s music program is threatened with cutbacks, however, he is inspired to raise money in the craziest way possible: by moonlighting as an MMA fighter. Sound a little bit familiar? Yeah, I’m going to take a wild guess that these guys have seen Warrior.
The movie is directed by longtime Adam Sandler collaborator Frank Coraci (The Waterboy, Zookeeper) and the script is written by Kevin James, Rock Reuben (The King of Queens) and Allan Loeb of all people… yes, the same guy who wrote Things We Lost in the Fire and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (okay, so he also wrote Just Go With It and The Dilemma). The movie doesn’t seem to have quite as many regular Happy Madison cast members and almost seems to have a School of Rock vibe, although it clearly still contains plenty of slapstick humour as well. Here Comes the Boom hits theatres on October 12th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
