Charlie Sheen Joins the Cast of Machete Kills

Well if you happen to follow Robert Rodriguez on Twitter, then you’re probably already aware that production for his next film Machete Kills is currently underway. He has been posting a few photos from the set of the film and just yesterday he also dropped a pretty interesting last minute casting announcement. The original Machete embraced the grindhouse style with some good old-fashioned stunt casting; big names like Robert De Niro, Lindsay Lohan, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal definitely raised the profile of the film and helped give it the necessary tongue-in-cheek tone. While none of them are returning for the sequel, Rodriguez is filling this movie with other worthy new additions including Mel Gibson and Tony Jaa. Now this week we’ve been given the most winningest announcement yet: Charlie Sheen has been cast to play the President of the United States.
Sheen hasn’t done all that much since he was fired from Two and a Half Men last March. He was rumoured for a cameo in The Hangover: Part II but that never panned out, although he did star in Roman Coppola’s upcoming film A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. This announcement seems right in line with the casting of Mel Gibson in the movie, although it still remains to be seen how significant the role will be.
The plot supposedly revolves around Machete being hired by the U.S. government to stop an arms dealer named Luther Voz (Gibson) from launching a deadly missile. He is working in cahoots with a terrorist named Mendez the Madman (Demián Bichir). Other cast members include Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofía Vergara, Jessica Alba, Tom Savini and of course, Danny Trejo. Are you looking forward to Machete Kills? Does the additional of Charlie Sheen make you more or less excited about it?
