P.T. Anderson’s The Master Trailer #2

After the mysterious first trailer for P.T. Anderson’s The Master introduced us to Joaquin Phoenix’s troubled character Freddie Sutton, this week we’ve got a second trailer that brings Lancaster Dodd (Philip Seymour Hoffman) into the picture. From what we know about the movie, Dodd appears to be the charismatic leader of a cult of some sort, and he is clearly taking Freddie under his wing. The trailer features the same off-kilter music as the last one and ends with another hint that Phoenix’s character is volatile and unpredictable. Out of all of P.T. Anderson’s previous films, the one I’m most reminded of thus far is Punch-Drunk Love. The Master hits theatres on October 12th; check out the new trailer after the jump and see what you think.

  • uh….awesome…AWESOME…A_!_W_!_E_!_S_!_O_!_M_!_E!!!

(u could put a Greenwood soundtrack on a kitty video and it would be epic)

This film is definitely my anticipated film this year!

Love the 1950’s style. I’ve gotten tired of the idealistic Mad Men-style fashion, and I am pleased to finally see a authentic point of view from that era. I also enjoy PTA’s knowledge of history, as he clearly is taking on the 1950’s revival of religious fundamentalism, of which we see the consequences of today in the United States.

I’m probably going to watch There Will Be Blood again tonight, after seeing this awesome trailer.

    God I can’t wait!

  • La Menthe

If this film turns out to be a combination of Punch-Drunk Love and There Will Be Blood (I personally didn’t see this, though many, including Sean, do), among two of my all-time favorite films, this film will be extraordinary to the point of bewilderment.

  • Jonny Ashley

Right up there with Django Unchained and Dark Knight for me this year.

  • Andrew

I can already tell Sean will under rate this film on release.

  • Cautious optimism rising. Please let this be better than There Will Be Blood and Punch Drunk Love.

    Hey it’s gone! Bummer!

  • Updated with new embed.

The part at the end where Huffman was asking all those questions was straight out of scientology. I actually took a personality test for shits.

What are the odds Joaquin will give huffman bowling pin brain surgery?

  • Napalm

Absolutely fucking insane! Can’t wait! The dialog exchanges alone makes this trailer!!!
