Pitch Perfect Trailer Starring Anna Kendrick

Prepare to get pitch slapped!!!!! The influence of Glee over the past few years has been hard to ignore (High School Musical as well, for that matter) and with Rock of Ages hitting theatres this weekend, it makes sense that we are getting a new trailer for yet another school-based comedy that revolves around a musical competition. The difference here is that the movie is based on a novel that was adapted by 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon, and it feels a little bit similar to the Tina Fey cult classic Mean Girls. But with a lot more singing, that is.

Pitch Perfect stars Anna Kendrick as Beca, the new girl in school who is unable (or possibly unwilling) to fit in. But when her singing talent is accidentally revealed, she finds herself drawn into “the cutthroat world of college ‘a cappella'”. Brittany Snow co-stars along with Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids), John Michael Higgins, Adam DeVine and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Although I’m generally not a fan of musicals, this one looks a bit more tolerable than most. Pitch Perfect hits theatres on October 5th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

This sounds extraordinarily stupid. Personally I hated mean girls and I despise Glee, so this idea is completely unappealing to me. This feels like it is going to be just another smug and annoyingly self aware film. It will not even having the single saving grace that Glee has which is Jane Lynch.

God help us all if this is the future of musicals
