Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained Trailer

After all the sneak peeks and early leaks, it’s time to kick back and enjoy the first official trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film totally guilt-free. A new Quentin Tarantino movie always feels like an event, and this one is no different. Django Unchained finds him making his first full-blown Western but by fusing it with a Southern sensibility and setting it in the American South just before the Civil War, he has come up with an intriguingly original concoction. Will audiences be as enthusiastic about this as they were Inglourious Basterds?

Jamie Foxx plays a slave named Django who is freed by a German-born bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) in exchange for his help tracking down the notorious Brittle brothers. From there, the two set off to rescue Django’s wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) from the clutches of evil plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). My first reaction after watching the trailer is that Leonardo DiCaprio looks badass, but Christoph Waltz feels a little out of place. No matter… I also love the costumes and the dialogue is Tarantino-riffic. Django Unchained hits theatres on Christmas Day; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Amazing, I knew it would be my most anticipated of the year but now I can hardly contain my excitement.

  • James

disappointed with the tone of the trailer. Some great shots, but overall not very assuring for me. Didn’t like the screenplay either.

  • Gil

Well this just looks silly. Or at least the trailer made it seem that way. The soundtrack makes it seem like a bad comedy.

  • Hmmmmmm, was not expecting that! Watched the whole thing waiting for a shot of some epic southern gladiator type scene?! Is that angle out now? See little reason to not include it?

  • Henrik

The trailers for Inglorious Basterds were insanely misleading, so I wouldn’t read much into this… Probably is best seen as a marketing departments representation of the material, rather than hints for the movie itself.

  • Gil

    @Henrik True.

  • Bob

Christoph Waltz feels way out of place for some reason. It’s a trailer so who knows. But, as far as trailers go, meh.

  • bob

my most anticipated movie of the year. I cannot wait for this.

  • I just have this image stuck in my mind of a Blood Sport type, heavy timber barn / arena set in some deep southern swamp with sweaty slaves and an upper loft filled with plantation owners. filmed all Leone like! IS THAT TO MUCH TO ASK FOR, HERR QUENTIN?!?!?!

  • Kasper

    It got me hard.

  • Niklas

Im looking forward to the movie but this was a bad trailer

  • patrik

I like it well enough.. I remember not being all that impressed by the trailer for Inglorious Basterds and ended up loving that so I don’t really put too much into a trailer.. I’m sure it’ll be awesome. Washington sure looks sweet.

  • Wintle

    Franco NEEEEEEEERO!

  • Colin

Unbelievably terrible trailer… would have been even more unbelievably terrible with Will Smith delivering those lines; it literally would have been Wild Wild West 2

  • 1138sw

I enjoyed the trailer…it gives a taste of what is to come and to me the tone feels very similar to Inglorious bastards. Unfortunately “Bastards” was a movie I really disliked. Despite some great scenes, i.e. the bar scene, the movie’s tone just really turned me off. I’ll still check it out but I hope this is better than “Bastards”.

  • La Menthe

This is a terrible trailer, but it is still the film i am looking most forward to this year!

  • Nils

Now what exactly does everyone think is so bad about this trailer? Is it just the tone?

  • /\/\/\/\ I feel the negatives toward the trailer is that it’s full of very common western tropes. You would think a QT trailer would at least hint at how those tropes are going to be reinterpreted. And as I’ve said already, I was disappointed the gladiator mashup / trope was not included.

I agree this trailer is bad and they are keeping things close to their chest for unknown reasons (probably known, as QT loves secrets and spoon feeding his audience) This trailer doesn’t work for QT fans and I don’t see it really working for the uninitiated?? It really only works if you are a fan of Christoph Waltz?!

  • Jarrod

    I’ll pop on that

  • Markus Krenn

I dont get the hate for this trailer. I looks like Tarantino on his best.
I would bet this will his best movie so far.

  • bugsyoz

    Not much chop

  • Didnt really do much for me but has Quentin written all over it…

  • bullet3

Weird to see the muted reaction here of all places. Everyone online, both across movie sites and on Twitter seems to love this.

I think it looks outstanding personally.

  • Bryan

Looks amazing. Hard to imagine Will Smith turned this down! Jamie Foxx will work though.

  • Hugo Van Nor

This will sum it up. No one is never happy. Waaaaaa!!!

  • that motherfucker

That Cash tune was used to greater effect in the trailer for True Grit. That said…looks like Tarantino, yup. Will be there opening night with cock in hand.

  • Steven

I can’t say I was as blown away as when I saw the trailers for Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds but I’ll definitely check it out. Looks like a pretty fun movie at least!

  • kyri

the trailer plays a lot better with the sound off..
