Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph Trailer

I feel a little bit guilty for saying this, but I’ve actually been looking forward to Disney’s next CG animated film more than this year’s Pixar film Brave… and up until now, I knew very little about the Disney film. Wreck-It Ralph revolves around an 8-bit video game villain who, after 30 years, has started to grow tired of always being the bad guy. He sets off in an attempt to become a hero in a new first-person shooter, wreaking havoc in the video game world in the process. The main character is voiced by John C. Reilly, while Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman also contribute their vocal talents.
The first trailer has gone live over at MSN this week and although it didn’t really blow me away, it does offer a few reasons to be excited. For one, Disney has managed to secure the rights for a wide variety of real-life video game characters, which means no lame indirect parodies. Essentially, this could be a licensing crossover on the same level as Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. Also, the idea of exploring what video game characters do in their spare time is a very Pixar-esque concept (albeit one that was already explored by such animated shows as Reboot and Game Over). Wreck-It Ralph is directed by Rich Moore (Futurama) and hits theatres on November 2nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
