Film Junk Premium Podcast: The Terminator Legacy + Total Recall

You asked for it and you got it, folks! Due to popular demand, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the focus of our latest premium podcast along with his most iconic character of all-time, The Terminator. In this episode we revisit James Cameron’s The Terminator and all of its sequels, plus we also throw in a conversation about the original Total Recall just for the hell of it. Discussion topics include the evolution of the franchise’s groundbreaking special effects, timeline paradoxes and the various portrayals of John Connor, plus three-boobed prostitutes and the sweet, sweet riffs of Guns N’ Roses. Is Total Recall all in Quaid’s head? What is the best Arnold one-liner? Do we hate the third and fourth Terminator movies as much as you? Come with us if you want to listen!

    (Total Recall)

  • Kasper

    Greg, you da man. Wasn’t expecting any of you to agree with me on the fact that The Terminator is better than Terminator 2.

    Is there any mention of the legendary sergeant candy deleted scene?

    1) the reason why T1000 wants Sarah to call John is because he doesn’t know the number.

    2) In the making of Documentary of the First film (in the special 2disk edition that I posses)
    It is mentioned that Arnold was casted to play Kyle Reese, not the Robot. Cameron was negative of the idea and he said in the documentary that he didn’t want him in, but when Arnold mentioned that he wanted to play the robot he changed his mind.

    3) In the Second film there is a deleted scene as well with Linda Hamilton’s twin sister. She is fixing Arnold by opening his skull and removing his chip or smthng. and her twin sister is playing Sara’s Reflection in the Mirror.

    Has anyone seen the 20′ short TERMINATOR 2 3D: BATTLE ACROSS TIME?

  • Kasper

    The last couple of minutes of the whole podcast were amazing. Best premium podcast moment so far!

  • Steve Kasan

    Yet to listen to this cast, but, it must be said…Arnold is the KING!!!!

    Cameron wanted Lance to play the Terminator right? I remember he even made a painting with Lance as the Terminator and then made another one with Arnold as the T800.

  • Derek McFarland

    The Terminator was the best out of all the Terminator movies.

  • Get to da choppa! Predator will always be my fave Arnold movie. That said, the Terminator series is a close second.

    So glad to get a little extra Junk this week!

  • Oh… forgot to add this.

    @kyri, if that’s the 3D short they had at Universal Studios (or MGM, I forget) in Florida, yes I saw it. Wasn’t really that great since it was set in the ‘future’ and was mostly just the robot style Terminators shooting resistance dudes.

    IIRC it was mostly just a gimmick type deal to have a movie where the 3D was enhanced by things in the theater (smoke machines/lasers/live actors). Fun, but not anything I’d go out of my way to see.

    @kyri
    the t1000 didn’t know the number? i don’t know if you’re joking, but perhaps you’re thinking of the wrong scene
    in the steel factory at the end of the movie he grabs sarah and tries to “persuade” her to call john, who is hiding somewhere

    You should add a new segment to the regular reviews called “Frank complaints”

  • patrik

    Nice.. Maybe Reed should have been involved to provide an opinion on TSCC. They handled the future stuff very well on that show btw, whenever they showed it. Awesome show.

    Terminator and Terminator 2, both fantastic. I have a weak spot for Terminator 3, I have come to view it as simply an action movie, whereas 1 & 2 transcends genre I think. Since I really enjoy most of the action in it, I like it a lot.

    Salvation is not that bad. A good few logical issues with it but again, the action is pretty good. I like the design for the most part, although the movie is a little bleak. Could have thrown some neon or something in it.

    @kyri

    I saw the 3D: BATTLE ACROSS TIME at Universal studios, quite a fun show and its the best 3D experience ive had. I usually avoid the 3D version though.

  • kyri

    @Nils I was joking mate, maybe I sould’ve said …the mobile number.

    The only “logical” explanation is that T1000 didn’t know the sound of Sara’s voice and he needed her to speak in order to copy it..

    @milath&&Beerdude

    apparently someone filmed it back then and put it on youtube 15years later:

    http://youtu.be/CEsuB9-XvRw

    it looks both retarded and awesome so I can see where you 2 are coming from..
    It seems like they took all the “good” lines from the original and just built a script around them.. Edward Furlong looks considerably older by the way.. making the interaction between him and Arnold a bit.. weird?.

  • Nils

    @kyri
    sorry, i didn’t get that
    another explanation could be, that he thought john would reveal himself when he saw that his mother was being tortured, hoping the t1000 would leave her alone once he(its primary target) revealed himself
    if i where john, i would certainly peek around a corner before exposing myself and, if this were the case, would rather respond to my mother crying out for help rather than seeing her struggle against the machine imitating her voice

    sounds a little far fetched though

  • Colin

    T-101 and T-800 are the same thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terminator_(character)

    So many inconsistencies, I’m sure Frank will agree.

  • I was waiting for one of you to reference the “two weeks” scene in Total Recall.
