Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter Trailer #3

Four score and twenty four hours ago, Fox released another new trailer for their upcoming action / horror flick Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. While I’m totally down for a goofy high concept summer romp, I’ve been waiting for something from this movie to impress me, and so far it hasn’t really landed on my radar. All we’ve really seen is slow motion action shots of a young Abe Lincoln swinging an axe — which, let’s face it, is basically the bare minimum required to make this movie a reality.

The new trailer takes a slightly different approach, using the Gettysburg address as the backdrop for another montage of clips. They seem to be trying to make it feel epic, but I’m still not seeing anything all that exciting in terms of visuals or performances. I also can’t help but think it would be a lot cooler if it was the older Abe who kicked ass instead. I liked Wanted, but is Timur Bekmambetov really the right guy for this job? Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter hits theatres on June 22nd; check out the new trailer along with the recent red band trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I don’t know if you’ve read the book Sean but I enjoyed it a great deal. The author was able to weave a reality, combining Abe’s real history with legends and myths of horror and do so really convincingly. The tragedies and triumphs of Abe blend so well with the vampire lore that you could almost believe they were true.

But the book is a really tragedy in a lot of ways and the movie seems to gloss over those elements presenting a typical action movie.

I was not a fan of Wanted and thought it overdone, bombastic and simplistic. I hope that Burton’s influence will help this film but so far am not impressed.

If you haven’t read the book I would recommend it. Great summer read that isn’t light but depth ridden captures Abe in alight that is truly different.

  • Are there any stunt coordinators working in Hollywood that don’t use martial arts as a fighting technique?
I love the concept of Abraham Lincoln as a vampire hunter but I’m tired of this fight style in every single movie.

  • The end audio on this trailer is brutal… There is no need for the echo on the voice and it makes no sense.
