This Week on DVD and Blu-ray: The Grey, Chronicle, Being John Malkovich: Criterion Collection

We’ve got a couple of early 2012 surprises and a handful of 2011 indie releases hitting stores this week, along with a whole slew of catalog titles on Blu-ray, so take your pick! The two biggest new releases are The Grey and Chronicle, both of which are well worth checking out in my opinion, along with the poorly received horror flick The Devil Inside and the Katherine Heigl dud One for the Money. Other smaller but noteworthy titles include Rampart starring Woody Harrelson, Albert Nobbs starring Glenn Close, and the Haruki Murakami adaptation Norwegian Wood. Also out this week we have the first season of AMC’s Western drama Hell on Wheels, and on Blu-ray look for Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1900 and a new Criterion edition of Spike Jonze’s Being John Malkovich. What will you be buying or renting this week? Check out the full list of releases after the jump.

definitely picking up The Grey, Chronicle and Being John Malkovich

Where can I find a copy of Norwegian Wood? Murakami is one of my favorite authors and I’d love to see how his stuff adapts to the screen (not well I’d assume but here’s to hoping).

  • Markus Krenn

Being John Malkovich. Waiting for this for a long long time…

  • Jonny Ashley

That is a fucking sexy cover for BJM

  • Goon

Looks like the Grey got pushed back a week here.

The BJM Criterion is great. Amazing liner notes. I also picked up Hard Core Logo 2.

    Sean,
is a Charlie Kaufman Premium Episode in the cards for the future? Malkovich, Adaptation, Spotless Mind and Synecdoche are all truly amazing, maybe throw in Human Nature or Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind in as well? Maybe when his new film comes out in a year or so?

  • It could happen but it might be kinda boring since we basically like all of them. Although I didn’t like Synecdoche on my initial viewing and have yet to rewatch it.

  • Sven

    True.
There really isn’t that much to say there if you don’t wanna come across like a pretentious douche. I really liked your selections thus far, so no complaints here, keep going!
