I wanted to say Bruce Cambell in Sam Raimi’s films as far as character actors in big movies, and yes Gary Oldman is a bad answer. Sorry Sean.

  • Lenny

You guys should review movies only Frank likes more often. Hilarious!

  • patrik

The forum is dead. LONG LIVE THE FORUM!!

  • Falsk

RIP FJ Forum. I never got to say goodbye. :(

  • patrik

City winning the league was one of the best experiences of my life and I don’t even like them. I just fucking hate Manchester United.. Couldn’t believe what my eyes was seeing, that gobsmacked drunken clown Ferguson walking about the pitch kinda celebrating with his scum team and then the roar of some 40000 Sunderland fans as they got the news that City had won it 1 minute from the end. The look on the United players faces is permanent burned in my retinas.. The joy, the joy.

  • The SNL digital short spectacular was pretty good, but they didn’t reference Lazy Sunday at all. The short that started it all!

  • patrik

About the Nolan thing, I don’t think it’s that people no longer like Nolan. It’s that many people use The Dark Knight to put down other comic book movies and hailing it as an artistic masterpiece. Jays rant kinda did that I felt, and I disagree because I get just as much enjoyment from The Avengers and other light movies that are viewed as artistically “lesser” movies.. I like The Dark Knight a great deal and The Dark Knight Rises looks awesome too. I don’t think it deserves any more praise for simply being “darker”.. Also, I think Greg is completely wrong in that people won’t like the DKR..

  • Kasper

I like Nolan and I like The Dark Knight – but it’s never been more than a 3/5 for me. That has nothing to do with The Avengers, though. I don’t get why I should put down The Dark Knight a notch or two just because I loved The Avengers, that wouldn’t make much sense.

  • rjdelight

Frank, here’s a retro game lounge to be envious of.

  • Napalm

Oh shit the forum is dead? :'( RIP forum.

  • I thought of a slightly better example of my favourite cult / character actor in a big mainstream movie: Steve Wiebe from The King of Kong in Four Christmases and Horrible Bosses.

  • Nuno

Argo was based on a Wired article written by Joshuah Bearman, here:

Finally watched the Argo trailer today and it looks great.

  • Please more soccer talk. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • dirrrtyfrank

Yeah, that retro gaming setup is pretty sweet. Mine is very similar in concept but not as big yet.

However, it cannot be ignored that the only way to retro game it with a tube television. That guy can’t even play Lethal Enforcers… what a joke.

  • Greg

@Patrik: I thought I said that people have already decided they were going to love it. Let’s just chalk it up to me rambling incoherently again.

    @Brittany: Come on…

  • Nuno

If I wasn’t already pumped about Argo, crotchety character actor, Michael Parks will be playing comic book legend, Jack “The King” Kirby in Affleck’s film. My mind is blown.

Be warned, if you don’t want major plot points to be spoiled, DO NOT read the Wired article that I linked to earlier.

  • Ultimo

Living in manchester and being a red this week was not a fun experience and i come here for solace and have to listen to Gregg go on about. Thanks Gregg :(

Also some corrections. United have the bigger success and City have gone through a lot of shit over the last decade but this was no david vs goliath story. City are the richest club in world football thanks to their Abu Dhabi sugar daddy owner who is worth £20billion (around $45b)

Also The Gallagher brothers aren’t half owners, Noel is a big fan and Liam comes out when they get a little success.

Losing on goal difference sucks a dick.

  • Nuno

I must be living under a rock because I hadn’t heard of Veep or the Pitch but I’m definitely going to check them out. I’m especially looking forward to the Pitch since the Canadian agency that Sean mentioned happens to be The Hive, who have been my biggest client over the last couple of years. I’m totally psyched!

  • Nuno, you are in for a treat. Both shows are a real hoot.

  • I thought my question was pretty simple, I guess not? I probably should have phrased it better or added more rules. But Frank I think understood what I was trying to say. In a vacuum where all the directors are alive in at the top of their game, who’s movie would you choose? Based on who’s movie do you think will give you the best possible movie going experience in your mind.

  • kyri

Glad you mention the Crazy Soccer games!!!

what is even more crazy it is that AT THE SAME FUCKING DAY

it was the Euroleaque BasketBall Final (like the two best Basketball teams in Europe)

    CCKA Moschow VS Olympiacos Greece

CCKA was wining by 20 points 10 minutes before the end

..and Olympiacos WON by 61-62 by a weird Jump-shot at the last fucking SECOND.

  • @Brittany
Sounds like someone can’t wait for the Ball Junk podcast to get started.

  • rjdelight

    Yes. Ball Junk must happen.

  • Jonny Ashley

    Stoked for the Schwarzenegger premium.

I can’t say for sure, but half of the people who listened to the Avengers show probably came and left with the one episode.

    Stay true to yourselves, FJ.

  • csidle

I hope you guys weren’t too discouraged by all the negativity that followed your last review. I think most of us really enjoy your podcast, still. It’s only the minority that are entering into psycho-analysis and character assassination, but fuck those people.

Frank’s frustration at being the only one to actually understand that one question is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in months. I am developing a man-crush on Frank.

(ps avengers is pretty damn bland)

  • Primal

My copy of Total Recall on BD stopped working probably less than a year of owning it. Apparently a lot of people have had this problem with this release. I contemplated on buying the german/french steelbook which are suppose to be region free, but im not sure if i wanna spend $60+.

They recently announced a mind bending edition that is approved by Verhoeven at the end of July. I’m guessing the schwarzenegger premium podcast will be release before July 31st?

  • Yep, should be coming in the next week or two.

  • Bob

Maybe I’m reading too much into this but I think the negative feedback from the last podcast resulted in the following:

Greg came out often and early with thoughts on Dark Shadows. He was unusually talkative during the review. And yet he still got some quick notes about food in and then later had a lengthy discussion on the soccer…errr…football game.

Jay makes it clear during the review that he didn’t care for the movie (other than the music) and then gives it 3 out of 4 stars – same as Avengers. He makes no attempt to hide his disdain for the fanboys throughout the episode.

Sean was his normal calm and collect self until junk mail where even he got pulled into the insanity that ensued in trying to decipher (a relatively straight forward) junk mail question about directors and movies you know little about.

Frank seemed to be 100% himself, even when he knew he was going to be on the defensive during the review. And Frank, who is probably the one most likely to get caught up in technicalities (due to his programmer and OCD tinged mind – e.g. movie organization, top 10 lists, star ratings, etc.), was the only one who understood the junk mail question that tripped up the other three.

All said, I love listening to the podcast and for many of the reasons some complained in the comments from the last episode they didn’t like it. I just thought it was funny how it seemed each of the guys responded to the criticism in this one. Or, again, maybe I’m reading too much into it?

  • Batman

What movies are being discussed in the Schwarzennegerr premium podcast??

  • It’s not really a Schwarzenegger podcast. It’s the Terminator movies plus Total Recall.

  • Greg

@Ultimo: It seems pretty clear that I just make stuff up to sound intelligent. Thanks for the corrections.

@Bob: I shared more thoughts with Dark Shadows because it disappointed me so much.

@Batman: I think you have more things to worry about that what movies will be on the Arnold podcast….like how to stop Bane this summer.

  • Anthony

    “Dark Shadows Fall”

Normally I’d lol at this, but with Greg saying this + Greg being a metal fan leads me to believe he is a Shadows Fall fan. If that’s the case, you hear the new album yet?

  • Jonny Ashley

One more thing about Celebrity Apprentice… You guys forgot to mention the hilarity of Aubrey being picked last.

  • patrik

@Greg: Ah, you probably did and I misheard.

@Brittany: “Soccer” is awesome.. Come on..

I think next episode, The Apprentice Finale deserves a hardcore discussion. So fierce..

  • It’s mostly due to the fact that I live in Toronto, not far from their home base, that I got to meet the Filmjunkers in person on several occasions. I can say, that from the listener perspective, it can be slightly intimidating to approach/meet people who you only know from their “radio” persona. It’s funny how fame works this way (for lack of a better word).
But they’re all very cool guys, and what you hear in the show is what you get. I never got a sense of “we are celebrities”.

  • P. Traum

I got the feeling that Frank was playing Devil’s Advocate a bit there, with his review.

That part where you guys were analyzing the 4 directors question was hysterical. Hysterical! I was literally laughing harder than I have at any comedy movie of recent memory.

  • JohnnyBlazed

I think all comic book movies are shit, and fans of them are all gay.
    No offense to homos.

  • reeds lovely rod

am i the only one who knows frank was playing a soap character during this whole episode.

  • Steve

Just to explore the applications of Letterboxd, I took the liberty of making a list for this episode.

If anyone else wants to do this for other episodes past or future, I suggest using the same general format with the title, description and link to show notes, and the tag “film junk podcast.”

  • Cool idea, thanks for doing that Steve. If they had a way to embed lists on your own blog, it would be even more useful!

  • KeithTalent

Sweet, just got my Demons/Demons 2 steelbook on Blu. Can’t wait to watch it now!

Glad Greg recapped the City win; he captured it well. They’ve been my English team since I was a kid, so it was nice to see them finally win something worthwhile.

    Quality show gents.

  • bugsyoz

What is ‘Gallagher;. Every time you mentioned ‘Galaga’…as in Ga-Lag-a, I thought Oassis were reforming or something.

Greg….excellent discussion on the final day of the EPL, however being a mighty Red you were remiss in not absolutely giving it to the Mancs…the Sunderland fans giving it to the Mancs….the looks on the players/managers face…the fact the manager complained about the time added on in the City game….blah blah blah. LOVE IT.
