NBC’s Revolution Trailer: A Post-Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Series from J.J. Abrams and Jon Favreau

With a lot of the TV networks recently announcing their 2012-2013 line-ups, we’re starting to see trailers and promos trickle out for some of next year’s big shows. And what would the fall season be without a new show from J.J. Abrams? After batting .500 last season with Person of Interest being renewed by CBS and Alcatraz getting the axe from Fox, this time around he will bring a new show called Revolution to NBC. It looks like a cross between Lost, The Hunger Games, and Life After People and it stars Tracy Spiridakos (Being Human), Andrea Roth (Rescue Me), Billy Burke (Twilight), JD Pardo (90210) and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad).

The premise involves a global blackout that thrusts the world into a new dark age. Fifteen years later, everyone is still without power, technology has been forgotten, and local militias run rampant. When a young girl’s father is killed, she sets off across the country on a journey to reclaim the future. Jon Favreau directed the pilot episode and it looks to have some decent action, but will it be enough for Revolution to succeed where shows like Jericho, FlashForward and The Event have failed? Check out the trailer for Revolution after the jump and see what you think.

Should have just acquired the rights to remake The Tribe, since it’s already the Hunger Games/Post-Apocalypse hybrid they seem interested in creating.

I’m actually shocked that no one has localized it for the States, since it falls right into the teen angst wheelhouse that seems to be so popular these days.

Everything is worn out except for the clothes?
Half intresting premise, half asses execution… AGAIN.

  • Colin

They’re just relying on new old-stock… it still works!

Okay this is one of the most popular thoughts that people have “what if the whole world had no electricity”, i’m surprised that no one has done this kind of show sooner. But just like time travel it raises more questions than it can answer like “why can they not generate their own electricity, does physics not work anymore?” and “Why is there a forest of trees all around this city after just 15 years?”. Now don’t get wrong I like this primes, but just like time travel it’s really easy to fuck it up real fast.

    Everyone’s so pretty.

@Adam: Good point… clearly hydro-electric or wind-power could be harnessed without much trouble.

Also, why has “technology been forgotten”? Was there a giant mind eraser involved?

    Just more J.J. silliness.

Looks like a cast of Soap Opera characters. Interesting premise but terrible execution. I have no interest in following these mannequins.

    @ Colin

well written mail has been forgotten and it has been only 15 years also since emails.

This looks like it could be fun. Anybody know who the showrunner is for this? And I love everyone who is asking question after question already. One trailer and people are saying well, what about this and this and this. Maybe just watch the show first to see if they have an explanation for some of the weird things? There’s a crazy idea.

  • Mrespony

    This looks terrible.

  • devolutionary

Give it 1 season, maybe a 2nd season tops before any potential target audience loses interest.

  • Adam

    @ devolutionary I think you’re right.

  • I wrote about this in the wee morning hours, while my boyfriend attempted to get Diablo III up + running (Error 37 – fail).

As I mentioned in my post, there is no grey area with this – its either going to be a hit or it’ll bomb. I’ll give it a few episodes to see how the storyline/character development fares, but I hope its not a sub-par Lost ripoff. The cast photo looks eerily similar to past Lost cast photos.

Hope S.M. Stirling sees this and calls his lawyer. His “Dies the Fire” from 2005 and his “The Change” series of Books is well, pretty close to the trailer.

And i don´t mean Battlestar to Star wars close. Only that Guns still works.

But you need guns, in any US series anyway. Otherwise it looks ok.

  • Did this show ever happen? I never heard anything about it.
