G.I. Joe: Retaliation Trailer #2

For the past few months, our good friend Wintle has been trying to convince me that G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be the best movie of the summer. Although I’ve really been trying not to get my hopes up, I have to admit that the marketing has been pretty solid so far and I haven’t really seen anything from this movie that I don’t like. This week the full theatrical trailer has arrived, and it continues to make G.I. Joe: Retaliation look like the G.I. Joe movie we all wanted in the first place.

There still aren’t a ton of new action sequences being pimped here, but we do get a lot more of the ninja fight on the side of a cliff… which apparently culminates in an avalanche. Sweet. We also get to see the attempted destruction of London and The Rock driving a tank. The trailer is actually pretty plot heavy, which I might be less excited about if it wasn’t for the classic G.I. Joe storyline about Cobra infiltrating the government and making the Joes look like bad guys. I think they’ve certainly got our attention… now they just have to follow through. G.I. Joe: Retaliation hits theatres on June 29th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

It’s hard to believe this is looking as good as it is, seeing as it’s from the visionary director who brought us such classics as Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and Step Up 2 the Streets.

  • Wintle

I approve this post’s image. I disapprove of all the emotion in this trailer.

Wintle might be on to something. Hope for some awesome ballet-esque ninja fight scenes!

This is looking much better than the first one, but that shouldn’t have been too hard.

I thought that Duke was the leader of the Joes? The trailer is making it look as if The Rock’s character leads them. In fact, it kinda seems as if Channing Tatum’s character is hardly in the movie at all. Maybe he dies at the beginning?

Oscar buzz! And it’s pretty obvious that Tatum dies at the beginning. He’s nowhere to be seen in either trailer so… what’s the alternative, really?

  • Due to Tatum’s popularity exploding this year, I wonder if his status in the film will be upgraded from “murdered” to “in a coma”. Eh? Up top!!!

I don’t like it when london is being destroyed in the movies.

..I ll better get the fuck out of this shit-hole before the summer..

If this franchise actually starts to work, I’d kinda like to see them reboot the original animated movie. It actually had an interesting, albeit fantastical, plot. All organic bad guys and a Tesla-esque solution to a worldwide energy crisis… Pretty relevant to today’s world.

  • Or at least have a revolving team of characters, with a few mainstays like Snake-Eyes, Roadblock, and (if he hasn’t been murdered) Duke. I think the first one really missed the boat by not having more of the iconic characters that you’d associate with the cartoon, and none of the really iconic VERSIONS of the iconic characters that were there. I mean, Ripcord and Mainframe? Really? And great, we got to see Destro in all his metal-faced glory for about 10 seconds, and Cobra Commander didn’t ever look like Cobra Commander in any of his various incarnations.

  • Are you ready for the New World Order?

  • I hope this movie can finally get the series some credibility.
