First Photo of Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock

As you may or may not already know, there are two separate Alfred Hitchcock biopics on the way, one due to air on the BBC later this year, and the other aiming for a 2013 theatrical release. The latter has just started production as of last week and stars Sir Anthony Hopkins in the lead role with Helen Mirren playing his wife, Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh, and Jessica Biel as Vera Miles. It’s called Hitchcock and it is being directed by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil! The Story of Anvil).

The very first photo of Anthony Hopkins as Hitch has hit the web this week courtesy of People Magazine and, if you ask me, it looks pretty impressive. Granted, it may not look quite as good head on, but they’ve clearly captured his profile and now it will be up to Hopkins to replicate his very distinctive voice and mannerisms. Constrast this with the other biopic, The Girl, which focuses more on Hitchcock’s relationship with Tippi Hedren (played by Sienna Miller) and stars Toby Jones as The Master of Suspense. Which one do you think looks more convincing? Check out a bigger version along with an image from The Girl after the jump.

Hopkins looks closer if you ask me, but that’s just because Toby Jones has such a weird face.

Physically, Jones doesn’t look right. His crooked fact is too distinctive. Hopkins can certainly immerse himself into the role better. Also, the subject matter of the Jones movie is odd. I understand there is certainly some fodder in his relationship with Hedren, but I think a more interesting movie would have been about his relationship with either Kim Novak or Vera Miles. The Hedren relationship just seemed to be more about him abusing her throughout the production of “The Birds”. But if there’s one interesting thing about his career is his thing for and about icy blondes.

Toby Jones always gets the short end of the stick when these competing biopics come out. He was fine in “Infamous” but no one saw it.

Hopkins looks great as Hitch! Cannot wait to see this one. That other one, forget about it!

I’m weary about judging this just on who looks more like Hitchcock. The director of ‘The Girl’ has more clout but then the Hopkins version has Ralph Macchio. Hopkins has been dialling it in for the last 5 years, can he even act as someone other than himself?

Wow that’s some insanely good make-up job. You can’t tell that Hopkins in the picture!

What about a film called number 13 chronicling hitch’s first film that wasn’t released from the early 20s
