Although Paul Verhoven’s Starship Troopers wasn’t a huge box office hit when it was initially released in 1997, it built up a cult following over the years, spawning an animated series plus a couple of direct-to-DVD sequels. Now Sony has decided to offer up another DTV release that mixes both of these ideas. Starship Troopers: Invasion is a feature-length CG animated film directed by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Appleseed Saga: Ex Machina).

They debuted a teaser trailer for the movie at WonderCon over the weekend, and if you ask me, it looks like it could pass for footage from a new Halo video game. I guess that kind of makes sense, especially considering that Aramaki also worked on a segment for Halo Legends, but still. I’ve said before that I’m interested in more feature-length CG movies that aren’t aimed at kids, I just hope that the end product will resemble something more than a video game cinematic. Starship Troopers: Invasion will hit stores sometime this summer; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
