Total Recall Taiwanese TV Spot

Update: The video has been pulled. Added something better instead.

Like most people, I’m not really expecting much from Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake, but I am still somewhat curious to see a new take on a Philip K. Dick story. Sony has been pretty slow to mount their marketing campaign, but this week we have finally received our very first glimpse of the film courtesy of a leaked Japanese Taiwanese TV spot. While it’s obviously not the ideal way to get a first look at a movie, in a weird way, the quirky style of the trailer it actually gives it a fitting sort of futuristic vibe.

Although the design of the world looks a fair bit different than Paul Verhoeven’s (with a lot more holograms), I was surprised to see that the iconic implant machine really hasn’t changed all that much. Other than that, there are a lot of really quick cuts that don’t reveal a whole lot. No word on when an official trailer will hit the web (update: it’s coming this weekend), but I suspect this video won’t be around for too long. Total Recall stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, John Cho and Bryan Cranston, and it hits theaters on August 3rd. Check out the TV spot after the jump and see what you think.

I’m actually looking forward to this quite a bit.

You should add the video where Arnie narrates what’s happening on screen and calls it a commentary track… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncR2_pnzngM

Good job Sony, don’t allow free advertisement and pay millions instead to print posters and run trailers on the theaters.
    Jay Cheel brilliant.

Looks more like a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s film than a new adaptation of the original story. Verhoeven’s stuff is great although it’s got a substantial camp factor that may not always be intentional.

  • Remakes are remakes, but how can they possibly make this better than the Arnold version? It just seems like a lost cause to me. Hope I’m wrong.
