Film Junk Poll: What is the Best Mel Gibson Movie?

Now here is a long overdue poll topic worthy of some serious debate! After a plethora of P.R. problems and the failure of The Beaver last year, Mel Gibson is trying to take his career back to basics with the upcoming action-comedy Get the Gringo. There’s no question that most of his biggest hits came in the ’80s, and yet he does have some noteworthy recent entries as well. But which one is his finest work to date? I’m sure this could get even more interesting if we also included his directorial efforts, but in the interest of simplicity, I thought we should stick to his acting roles only. (Also in the interest of simplicity, a vote for Lethal Weapon can be considered a vote for the entire series.) Cast your vote in this week’s poll and sound off in the comments below!

This is tough. Here is a laundry list of either hits and/or fantastic performances from Gibson. But, for the sheer fact he directed, starred and won Oscars, it has to be Braveheart.
The Year of Living Dangerously was a great early film of Gibson. The Man without a Face. Tim. Gibson FTW!!!

I could be wrong, but don’t you need your comeback film to be released in theaters for there to be a chance at a career resurgence?

What not including his Directorial films.

    I vote for Apocalypto.

That photo makes me want a separate poll: What is the Best Mel Gibson Hairstyle?

  • Indianamcclain

@ MisterUnderhill clearly Lethal Weapon is the best with Braveheart coming in at a close second.

  • Kasper

Every Mel Gibson movie is the best Mel Gibson movie.

  • La Menthe

Braveheart? Really? When was the last time people saw the film, because i bet if you saw it again you will understand how terribly boring the story of the film is. And how can anyone not feel happy watching the film after Mel Gibson shouts out “FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDOOOM” right before the credits roll?

  • Steve Kasan

@MisterUnderhill I’d say Lethal Weapon 3 for his super mullet. Gibson looked like he was part of the Midnight Express. Greg would get that reference

  • Colin

Signs or The Road Warrior for me, but I’ll go with Signs… forever watchable.

  • Bird On A Wire isn’t on this list? For shame.

While my initial thought was “Braveheart”, I HAD to vote for “We Were Soldiers”. That’s probably a mistake as that would only be my hands-down winner if we were voting for best Mel Gibson ROLE, not movie … we need more like Lt.Col. Hal Moore. So, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
