Battleship Trailer #3

As crazy as it might sound, Universal and Hasbro seem to be aware that there are people out there who have yet to be sold on a Battleship movie. So they’ve released yet another trailer for the movie, and amped up the robotic whirring sound effects and low rumbling bass by a factor of 10. I have to admit all the destruction looks pretty hilarious, although I’m guessing that’s not really the effect they were going for. A “global extinction event”… really? Peter Berg has basically moved right past Michael Bay and is now stepping on Roland Emmerich’s toes instead.
I’m sure they were hoping that John Carter would do a lot better at the box office this weekend so that they could build buzz on the Taylor Kitsch factor, but somehow I don’t think that’s going to help them at this point. Either way, I am now officially looking forward to catching this one at the drive-in just a couple of months from now. It actually looks like fun… and I’m only being partially ironic. Battleship hits theatres on May 18th; check out the new trailer after the jump and see what you think.
