Etan Cohen to Direct Boy Scouts vs. Zombies

There seem to be a lot of comedy writers making the jump to directing as of late, and I guess as long as they are mainly directing comedies, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Screenwriters probably have the best grasp of the comedic timing and the intended tone of a film that they wrote, and generally speaking, comedies don’t usually require a lot of visual style or skill behind the camera. However, this week it looks like Tropic Thunder writer Etan Cohen will be taking on something a little bit different for his directorial debut: a horror-comedy for Paramount called Boy Scouts vs. Zombies. Yep, another genre mash-up with “vs.” in the title… do I really need to say anything more?
According to Heat Vision, the script is not actually one that Cohen wrote himself. Penned by Carrie Evans and Emi Mochizuki (College Road Trip), it made the 2010 Black List as one of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. As you can probably guess, the plot “centers on a troop that must save a group of girl scouts from a pack of zombies with designs on spoiling a camping trip.”
Cohen has been one of the hottest screenwriters in Hollywood over the past few years, most recently writing Men in Black III. He previously tried to set up a directing gig with a film called Daddy’s Home starring Will Ferrell and Ed Helms, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside. What do you think, are you game for yet another zombie comedy?
