Weekly Poll Results: Best Russell Crowe Movie

Last week we took a look at the films of Russell Crowe and asked Film Junk readers to pick a favourite. No easy task, to be sure, but that didn’t stop everyone from laying out a pretty clear winner: Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. It makes sense considering that it is Crowe’s most successful movie to date and also won him his only Oscar, but L.A. Confidential and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World also received quite a few votes. A Beautiful Mind and The Insider rounded out the top 5, meanwhile, down at the bottom of the list, a pair of Ridley Scott’s other Russell Crowe flicks were more than a little neglected. Personally, I’m just glad someone out there voted for Virtuosity! Do these results meet your approval?

1. Gladiator — 32%
2. L.A. Confidential — 19%
3. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World — 15.1%
4. A Beautiful Mind — 11%
5. The Insider — 8.6%
6. 3:10 to Yuma — 5.8%
7. Cinderella Man — 4.7%
8. American Gangster — 1.7%
9. Robin Hood — 1.2%
10. Virtuosity — 1%

I would put “Master and Commander” and “3:10 to Yuma” higher but otherwise it’s pretty good.

Virtuosity is a Crowe gem, it’s only low on the list because most people dont know that film.

  • that motherfucker

Maybe I just need to watch it again, but 3:10 to Yuma left no decent impression on me–most especially that lump of cheese of an ending. What the fuck.

Virtuosity was actually a good movie, or rather, Crowe was really good in it. I had to vote for Master & Commander, but Virtuosity definitely deserves more love than it got.
