Morgan Spurlock’s Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope Trailer

Initially I didn’t have much hope for Morgan Spurlock’s Comic-Con documentary, Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope, but when the movie premiered at TIFF last year it received surprisingly favourable reviews. One of the reasons is that Spurlock himself apparently remains off-screen for the most part, and with the exception of his dubbed voice saying “Welcome to Comic-Con!” at the beginning of the trailer, he chooses to let the subjects speak for themselves. The other thing is that although the movie seemed like it would spend most of its time making fun of nerds, people who have seen the movie say that it actually has a lot more heart than you would expect.

The official trailer for A Fan’s Hope has debuted on Apple this week, and it shows that they are going for something a little deeper by exploring many different facets of Comic-Con. The documentary follows a collector, an aspiring artist and a costume designer, among others. Of course, it also features plenty of the most obvious celebrity interviews you’d expect a movie like this to have, including Eli Roth, Seth Rogen and Kevin Smith. I’m still not expecting much, but here’s to hoping this one ends up being a pleasant surprise. Comic Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope hits select theatres on April 6th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Kind of looks like an advert for Comic Con rather than a documentary.

I must have heard Kevin Smith do that joke about a 100 times by now…

  • Is that Reed Farrington at about 1:09?

    HA!

  • /\/\/\/\thinking same thing…but we all know Reed never leaves his basement!
