Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom Trailer

The first big trailer debut of the year has arrived online over at Apple, and it’s Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom! We’ve been hearing reports about this one for the past year or so, but to be honest, I still had no idea what it was about. I am intrigued to learn that it involves two twelve-year-olds falling in love and running away with each other, set against the backdrop of a Scout troop led by none other than Edward Norton. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand also star as the young girl’s parents, while Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff.

Granted, this trailer looks pretty much exactly like every other Wes Anderson movie, and I’m sure he’ll get criticized (as he always does) for bringing nothing new to the table. But I think after Fantastic Mr. Fox he has earned a bit of a reprieve from those accusations, and having the movie center on two young kids (played by complete unknowns Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward) should make it feel a little bit different as well. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman and Harvey Keitel. Moonrise Kingdom hits theatres on May 25th, 2012; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

Hey 2012, stop making me so excited to watch all your movies already, will ya?!

  • I know 2012 is stacked! New films from Paul Thomas and Wes Anderson, Spielberg, Tarantino, Nolan, and plenty more. It’s going to be a good year!

  • Steve

  • Cy-Ed

Looks like the pre aquatic post Darjeeling Anderson. Cannot wait, seriously looks great, I hope that it gets a wide release, I mean it is Wes Anderson and Bruce Willis and Ed Norton so hopefully…

I love the the handheld-even-more-french-new-wave-than-before style. Looks like it balances somewhere between Fantastic Mr. Fox and Royal Tenenbaums. Which is nice.

  • La Menthe

Best trailer in a long time. Certainly got me interested!

  • Niklas

    zzzzzz… boring!

  • Theman

Jay’s gonna hate this…. To cartoony.

  • patrik

Looks amazing. Very funny too, canĀ“t fucking wait for the movie year to kick off.

  • I smell marketing trouble like Where the Wild Things Are – is it a kids movie, is it an adult arty comedy? directors that try to have it both ways usually fail, just saying

But who cares how it will do financially? It’s how it is as a film that matters.

  • Andrew

The only Wes Anderson film that didn’t make a profit was Life Aquatic, which was bugdeted at like 50 mil. I think at this point Wes Anderson has enough name recognition along with all the big names in this that the maketing can’t really hurt it.

  • marl

looks typical. which in wes anderson’s case is good.
