  • Jay being gone must be why there’re more headlines this week… :)

  • Mrespony

Got my coffee and my T & K. Morning with the Film Junk podcast.

  • Regarding Frank’s point about The 41-Year-Old Virgin…: The “About It” is actually necessary. Without it, it’s not entirely clear what the virgin feels superbad about. Obviously there’s the implication that he feels superbad about knocking up Sarah Marshall, but the “About It” makes the cause-and-effect relationship between “Knocking Up Sarah Marshall” and “Feeling Superbad About It” explicit.

If the title were simply The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad, we would know he knocked up Sarah Marshall, and indeed that he felt superbad, but we wouldn’t know that he felt superbad because he knocked up Sarah Marshall.

And Greg’s right: “superfluous” is an awesome word. So is “mopery.”

i hate it when my “knee grows”

Frank, I have no problem with classifying ketchup as a jam but Taxi Driver deserves a place on Scorsese’s top 5.

  • Sam

The chess thing would never work. It’s impossible to wrap your head around this, but evidently there are more theoretically possible unique chess games than there are atoms in the known universe, and it’s not close. Also, there’s a guy somewhere (England?) who has a database of all recorded Grand Master chess tournament games — no two identical games have ever been played. So Sidney Sheldon’s heroine would lose her bet every time, and probably get gang raped (in different ways!) by each chess master.

  • patrik

Sunshine Sean.. Chris Evans is awesome in Sunshine.

  • Greg

‘So Sidney Sheldon’s heroine would lose her bet every time, and probably get gang raped (in different ways!) by each chess master.’

The exclamation point makes this terrible scenario hilarious.

I can deny that the Junior World Cup win is the biggest thing that has happened to Sweden in 100 years, but it was pretty sweet.

We had that exact same discussion about Jodie Foster walking out of Carnage. She seemed terrible, particularly near the end where she is yelling, but it definitely could have been how much we hated the character. I liked the film overall, but she did feel like the weak point.

Valkyrie is an awesome movie and Canada Dry FTW.

    Great show as always.

  • I haven’t seen it, but I think Lakeview Terrace has some of that reverse racism Frank’s looking for.

  • patrik

Rest in piece Kim Jong Il. Just found out he kicked the bucket..

  • patrik

I meant, “Rest in peace” of course.. Damn, we need a delete button. Sean?

  • Kasper

Lakeview Terrace does indeed have a lot of reverse racism. It’s also a pretty good flick, you should check it out guys.

  • I keep hearing that. It’s on the list, albeit a ways down, but it’s on it.

  • Napalm

Was hoping for Tinker Tailor review next week :/

  • @Napalm: You’re in luck, we’ll probably be reviewing that too.

  • Napalm

    Awesome! :D

  • bugsyoz

Toffs lose to Spurs in the league and the Reds beat City away in first leg of Carling Cup semi.

    To junkmail author….nuff said.

Hey guys, this was in reply to your sherlock tv series comment, actually you were wondering if the writer steven moffat would be able to write anything as big as a blockbuster. Well he did, this year, he was the third writer on the adventures of tintin, plus he wrote a lot of dr who and the great tv series jekyll. Just thought you would be happy to know it. Keep up the good work
