Bad Ass Trailer Starring Danny Trejo

Robert Rodriguez made him into an action hero with Machete, but now Danny Trejo is back to play a real-life “action hero” of sorts in a movie called Bad Ass. Watching the trailer for this film, initially I thought it was supposed to be a parody of Kick Ass, but as it turns out it is based on a real-life incident that was captured on video and became a YouTube sensation. 67-year-old Thomas Bruso was provoked by a 50-year-old black man on a bus in Oakland, and he responded by beating the crap out of him. He has since become known as “Epic Beard Man.”

This movie presents a fictionalized take on the story, with Trejo playing a Vietnam vet named Frank Vega, who protects an elderly black man from a pair of skin heads on a bus. When his best friend is murdered and the police do nothing about it, he decides to take matters into his own hand. It clearly seems reminiscent of Hobo with a Shotgun but with a lot less flair; it also co-stars Charles S. Dutton and Ron Perlman but it is directed by the same guy who did The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It, which should tell you something. Bad Ass is scheduled to be released sometime in 2012, and I think it’s safe to say that it will be direct-to-DVD release. Check out the trailer along with the original viral video and a short documentary on Thomas Bruso after the jump.

    liked the mini doc..

The trailer looks like shit though..
Why can’t they make a proper film out of a story these days. fucking retards.

I agree with Kyri. This guy deserves better. A feature doc would be ideal.

  • “[i]t is directed by the same guy who did The 41-Year-Old Virgin Who Knocked Up Sarah Marshall and Felt Superbad About It, which should tell you something.”

Yep, tells me a lot. Not sure if I could even watch it at my darkest moment.

“I need an amberlamps (ambulance)”, from the viral video. This new Danny Trejo movie actually has a character named Amber Lamps and director Craig Moss’s production company is called Amber Lamps LLC. Lameo.

You gotta be shitting me. If this was a theatrical release 4chan would be all over it. This could still be a “based on a true story,” without changing everything to fit liberal Hollywood. The whole appeal of this story originally was that a bunch of white losers that ride buses in large cities like Oakland/SF get bullied all the time by blacks, so they lionized an old guy that didn’t take any shit on the internet. There is so much to mine in that alone. With all the racism you see on the internet (just after yahoo news stories alone), this would have been a good movie to explore all this. Where is the next American History X, Spike Lee Movie, Trading Places, or Coming to America, which included some message about race and was entertaining? And Fuck yourself if you say Crash.
