Daniel Craig to Star in Five More James Bond Movies?

Before Casino Royale was released, I don’t know if anyone could have predicted that Daniel Craig would become one of the most popular actors ever to play James Bond. You may remember that there was even a whole fan group that wanted to stop him from starring in the film because they were convinced that he was not right for the role. Casino Royale silenced most of his critics, and now, thanks the success of that film and Quantum of Solace, Craig is poised to become the longest-running Bond actor ever. He has reportedly been offered a new deal to star in at least five more films after the upcoming Skyfall. Although he has not yet accepted the offer, it seems unlikely that he would turn such a lucrative deal down. Bond producer Michael G Wilson had this to say:

“Daniel’s been a terrific Bond, a superb actor and a terrific man. The fans love him and I don’t think there’s a better actor to play the part… Filming has gone very well so far and I’d love Daniel to surpass Roger’s record and do eight pictures. Daniel’s been an absolute pleasure to be around because he takes the role so seriously. There’s really no one more passionate about making these films work than him – he’s a film maker’s dream. A lot of people have said Daniel’s been their favourite Bond since Sean Connery and I can’t argue with them. He’s doing a great job.”

The record he is referring to is Roger Moore’s record of starring in seven straight Bond films between 1973 and 1985. Technically, Sean Connery also starred in seven 007 flicks although they weren’t consecutive and one wasn’t an official EON production (Never Say Never Again). It seems like this deal will probably not be settled until after Skyfall finishes shooting, but nevertheless I’m curious to hear what people think. Would you be happy to see Daniel Craig locked in for five more Bond movies or would you prefer to see someone else given the chance? Could it be a risky move for Craig to commit so much of his career to this role or is typecasting not a concern for him?

    A blond as Bond? Preposterous!

  • Surely this isn’t to say he will star in 5 more but to get the contract ready as a possibility. In the way that he has a 3 movie contract with the Dragon Tattoo series…? But I’d be happy to see him continue in the role – so long as the scripts improve.

  • On that note here’s a nice little Q&A with Daniel Craig about Quantum of Solace:

Q: It seems that the script is sometimes an after-thought on huge productions.
A: ‘Yes and you swear that you’ll never get involved with shit like that, and it happens. On “Quantum”, we were fucked. We had the bare bones of a script and then there was a writers’ strike and there was nothing we could do. We couldn’t employ a writer to finish it. I say to myself, “Never again”, but who knows? There was me trying to rewrite scenes — and a writer I am not.’

my favorites will always be sean connery and Pierce Brosnan. I grew up with pierce as Bond, but can’t deny the legendary status that sean connery has as the George Washington of the bond series. That being said, Daniel Craig is a fantastic Bond. He is believable. He can charm you, and he could kick the living shit out of you. Serious, yet sarcastic at the same time. I just think the main problem is with the stories they are telling and the way they have sorta revamped a series. I don’t feel like i’m watching a James Bond movie anymore. It feels more like a bourne movie.

SO i guess long explination long, love daniel craig, keep him around, and bring the bond back to bond. stop trying to immitate bourne.

Hells yeah! I wouldnt be scared for change for another 5 flicks… On that note, Brad Bird should direct at least one of them.

  • Derek McFarland

    Christopher Nolan should direct one

James Bond is an old man named Roger Moore. But seriously, I’m not a huge fan of Daniel Craig as Bond, I would love to see Tom Hardy or Michael Fassbender have a go at 007.

I think Craig is the best Bond yet. Not sure doing 5 more would be the best move for him, but as long as the keep up good stories that are grounded in reality I would watch them.
