Drive was my favorite film of the year, but reactions to it are obviously divisive. Does anyone really think it’s the type of film likely to win in a popularity contest category like best picture? That said, Winding-Refn is certainly more deserving than Clooney for direction and I would have rather seen a nod for Gosling’s performance in Drive than in Ides of March which, as a film, was only mediocre at best. I rarely disagree with a positive Film Junk consensus, but I was kinda let down by their love for Ides of March.

Breaking Bad being snubbed? Travesty.

Girl With the Dragon Tattoo not up for best picture? BS. No Michael Shannon for Take Shelter, no Elizabeth Olsen for Martha Macy? For shame. At least Tilda got a nod for We Need to Talk About Kevin, one of the best movies of the year.

I know this is more concerned with the film nominees, but it is disgusting that Breaking Bad was not nominated for best drama, but American Horror Story is.

Also shame to not see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and We Need to Talk About Kevin on the lists more, both would be a fine replacement in drama for Ides of March and The Help.

I found Ides of March was just too generic and similar to past political thrillers to make any real impact. Drive felt far more daring, thought I will say that the performances in Ides were all very good.

My bad, I must’ve skipped over that. Woops.

I still stand by that it’s the most overrated film of the year. I haven’t seen The Help so I can’t comment on that, but I did see Ides of March and really liked it. Thought it was so much better than Drive, and thought Gosling’s performance in that was better than his in Drive as well. If you guys all enjoy Drive, great. I didn’t, so excuse me for being happy that it didn’t get nominated for a lot of awards.
