Neil Marshall Enters Hellfest, Alexandre Aja Grows Horns

Heads up horror fans, we’ve got the scoop on new projects for a couple members of the so-called “Splat Pack” this week. (Wait, is the Splat Pack still a thing? Probably not.) Anyway, it looks like Alexandre Aja will finally be taking some time away from the many remakes he is involved with in order to do something original again. According to Heat Vision, he has signed on to direct an adaptation of Joe Hill’s 2010 novel Horns. Who is Joe Hill? None other than Stephen King’s son, who took on a pen name in order to dissociate himself from his father and to let his work be judged on its own merits.

The story revolves around a 26-year-old man who wakes up with a hangover and finds horns growing out of his head. He slowly starts to suspect that he may be connected in some way to the unsolved murder of his own girlfriend. The script for the movie was written by Keith Bunin (In Treatment), and it is expected to shoot before Aja gets around to filming Cobra: The Space Pirate, a sci-fi movie that he has been developing for a while now.

Elsewhere, Neil Marshall (The Descent) has lined up his next project, and it will be a return to horror after dabbling in post-apocalyptic sci-fi (Doomsday) and medieval action (Centurion). The movie is called Hellfest, and according to Deadline it is about a “costumed killer who systematically slaughters the unsuspecting visitors who come to a theme park on Halloween night.” No word on what happened to Burst 3D, the project he was supposed to collaborate with Sam Raimi on, but this sounds pretty cool to me. Are you looking forward to new films from Neil Marshall and Alexandre Aja?
