2011 Film Junk Reader’s Choice Awards: Voting is Now Open!

It’s that time of year again, folks! As the Best of 2011 lists start rolling out, we wanted to make sure we include you guys in the discussion as well. I think this is the sixth year that we have done the Film Junk Reader’s Choice Awards, and just in case you’re unfamiliar, the idea is that we pick five nominees in a number of different genres or categories and then open it up for voting throughout the month of December. Then sometime after Christmas, we unveil the winners!

As with every year, there are a handful of movies that could easily fit in a number of different categories. We usually try to organize it so that there are no clear cut winners just to keep things interesting. Also, in order to qualify, a movie needs to have received some sort of theatrical release in North America in 2011, and we generally try to keep it to movies that a majority of readers would have had a chance to see. Feel free to discuss our choices in the comments below. So what are you waiting for? Click through to cast your votes for the 2011 Film Junk Reader’s Choice Awards!

For as little as I feel like I went to the movies this year the list is definitely filled with tough choices, I need to watch some of the ones I haven’t seen yet before casting my votes though.

  • Attack the Block was the best film of the year. I saw it in theater, and I’ve probably watched it three more times at home.

  • Tyrannosaur= Best film of the year.

  • Midnight in Paris for drama? It was a comedy…

Is it Greg the man of the Right with the Crab costume?

  • Steve Kasan

I honestly think you should put Captain America as one of the entries for the Best Picture category.
Seeing as this is just through opinions, but, Cap hit everything on all cylinders.

Is Drive considered a thriller? More of a dramatic film.

  • Hey Guys.

Good list. But I think there’s a couple missing from the Documentary category. Even though Senna might technically be a 2010 movie, it didn’t realy hit mainstream audiences before 2011. In my humble opinion it is not only the best documentary this year but straight out one of the best movies i saw all year. Another one missing is the Interruptors. I know we cant fit 10 movies in all categories but even Jay pointed these two out as Oscar snubs on the documentary blog. So i had hoped to see them on your list :) Maybe you can tell me why in the next show as a “junkmail” :) ?

Keep up the great work, and greetings from Denmark,

    Jamel

  • Yeah the documentary category is tough. Both Senna and The Interrupters had extremely limited theatrical releases and still haven’t come out on DVD here. We considered them but in the end I just didn’t think enough people had seen them.

problem with the Drama category…The Tree Of Life, NO, that had to be the biggest pile of shit of the year. also, Best Doc, hello, BEAUTY DAY!!!!

  • mushroomyakuza

Guys, you should allow the option to not vote on a question – living in Japan, I only just saw Moneyball tonight and haven’t seen any of the comedies, horrors or documentaries this year!

Had to choose one based on what you guys had said about them.

  • Best film of the year…

The Skin I Live In. Just saw again last night and man it is disturbingly genius in every possible way a movie can be.

  • Mark In Ottawa

I’m a little dissapointed there was no category for favorite podcast member.

Better yet – a poll for whether Reed should be on every podcast.
