Tony Scott to Direct Narco Sub

If you’re a fan of Tony Scott, I can’t see how you wouldn’t be excited about this next project. Not only does it involve drug dealers, but it also involves submarines. True Romance meets Crimson Tide? Sold. The movie is called Narco Sub and revolves around “semi-submersible crafts South American drug cartels employ to smuggle cocaine into the U.S.” I had no idea that this was even a thing, but it definitely sounds like it could be a cool backdrop for an action-thriller. The script was written by David Guggenheim (not the documentary director) and Twentieth Century Fox has acquired it and assigned Tony Scott to direct. Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Jumper) will also produce.
According to Deadline, the project is “described as reminiscent of Scott’s Crimson Tide and Man on Fire.” I’m assuming that means it will be maintaining the same visual style as everything Scott has done since Man on Fire. I’m also assuming it means that Denzel Washington will end up starring in the film — especially considering that he just finished shooting Safe House, which also happens to be written by Guggenheim.
The question is, where will this fit in with Scott’s slate of upcoming projects? Narco Sub is supposedly a high priority at Fox, but Scott has a ton of other movies in development including Emma’s War, Hell’s Angels, an adaptation of Mark Millar’s Nemesis, an adaptation of John Grisham’s The Associate, a remake of The Wild Bunch and a possible Top Gun sequel. Are you excited about Narco Sub? Which of these projects would you like to see Tony Scott direct next?
