First Official Photos from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus

I think it goes without saying that Ridley Scott’s Prometheus is one of the most highly anticipated movies of next year. The idea of Ridley Scott returning to the world he created with the first Alien film is an intriguing one, but I think even more intriguing is the idea that this loose prequel will also stand alone as an original work. Up until now the movie has been mostly shrouded in mystery aside from the fact that Prometheus is the name of a ship that gets marooned on an alien planet. However, we do know that the movie stars Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Patrick Wilson, Idris Elba and Guy Pearce. How can you go wrong?

This week the first batch of official images from the movie have appeared in the pages of Entertainment Weekly and they look pretty spectacular. Up until now only one image had been officially released online, but the good folks at Shock Till You Drop have provided full scans of the rest. The production design is impressive and intriguing… I mean, what is that giant face all about? In case you were wondering, the Tom Hardy lookalike is Logan Marshall-Green, who is also one of the lead actors in the film. I don’t know about you but I absolutely can’t wait to see a trailer. Prometheus hits theatres on June 8th, 2012; check out the images after the jump and let us know what you think.

    The costume design. What were they thinking? Where’s the bulky suits with the hockey gloves? The original aesthetics are completely different from what was chosen.

    The first film was on blue collar, space miner. This crew looks to be space researchers. Hence, they have better equipment.

    The costumes are not so cool but who cares, the rest looks awesome. Can´t wait, looks like some really cool settings and I fucking LOVE Idris Elba!!

    I read somewhere that H.R. Geiger was supposed to have been involved with the set design of this film and judging by these images it looks like that might be true. Anyone else know if he was involved?

    There’s an interesting interview on Kevin Pollack’s show with Damon Lindelof who rewrote the script for Prometheus per Ridley Scott’s request. You need to go to the 2:18 mark where he touches on the topic and he speaks of it again at the 2:25 mark which is amazing to hear his description about how Ridley Scott approached him to write the script and it is quite entertaining. If you are a fan of Lost and other works by Lindelof the entire interview is worth a watch.

    The dragoon looks pretty hot in red hair. The rest looks ok we’ll see how it works out.

    Fassbender has taken over from Sam Worthington as Hollywood’s “It Guy”;seriously,what HASN’T he been cast in yet? LOL Anyway,these pics look fantastic. I trust that the finished film will be magnificent!
