Nelson is right, Arnie’s accent was a gimmick that helped a lot of movies stand the test of time as true forms of movie entertainment.

It’s funny because The Rock is actually making A LOT more movies than Arnold did but none of Rock’s movies are as memorable or as iconic.

Nelson is also right that he needs his “Terminator” or “Predator” to solidfy his status as a legitimate action hero. For some reason him and Vinnie D are afraid to go the “action hero” route even though that’s what they were built for. As proof with Fast Five and Pitch Black, it’s what fans want to see.

@Nelson The accent was never Schwarzenegger’s ‘gimmick’ as you put it. It was one of his greatest stumbling blocks as an actor, which lead to him having as few lines as possible in his movies.

He never acts like he’s above the material, which I admire a lot, particularly when it comes to all the kids movies he does. He seems like he’s having a blast, and his performance is usually good, whether the movie itself is or not. I’ve seen when other action stars do something they wouldn’t ordinarily do, and you can see that look of “Why the hell am I doing this?” the whole time, but Rock always looks like he’s genuinely into whatever he’s doing at the time.

Monster Hunter’s Survival Guide will probably be a very decent action film, at the least. I like the comparison to Arnold Schwarzenegger. If I was Dwayne I might have maybe adopted a little accent early in my career to make myself stand out a little, but it would have been too obvious. The accent thing is Arnold’s gimmick and he’s made it work surprisingly well over the years. That, and the whole “muscles all over the place” thing.

Johnson always comes off so seriously in the roles I have seen him in that when he’s in character and he smiles or he makes a joke or something it really stands out, to me, more so then with other actors that I watch.

I like him a lot. I would just like for him to get his “Terminator” role, sooner or later. I could see him in one of these comic book movies playing the lead role but I’m not sure what hero he would be exactly perfect for. Maybe “Namor the Submariner”, but he’s definitely not at the same level as some of the other Marvel characters. There’s a high chance that that movie would flop, just like if someone attemtped an “Aquaman” movie.

I guess we’ll see what happens.
