Goon Red Band Trailer

The last time we posted a trailer from Michael Dowse’s upcoming hockey comedy Goon, it turned out to be nothing more than random footage spliced together from a pirated bootleg of the film. This time, however, we’ve got our hands on the real deal and it even has the Magnet logo attached as the movie was picked up by Magnolia Pictures at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. With a script from Jay Baruchel and Evan Goldberg and a cast that includes Baruchel, Seann William Scott and Liev Schreiber, it will be interesting to see if this movie will find a U.S. audience or if it is destined to be just another Canadian cult classic.
The trailer itself is basically what you would expect. Seann William Scott plays a dim-witted tough guy who “accidentally” finds himself on a path to a semi-pro hockey career. There is plenty of raunchy humour and lots of blood on the ice… something tells me this is the last thing the NHL wants to see in theatres right now even if it’s not actually supposed to be portraying the NHL. Goon hits select theatres in the U.S. on March 30th but it will get a wide release in Canada on February 24th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
