Monday Morning Box Office Report: Puss in Boots Rides Again

It was another great weekend for DreamWorks as the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots held strong at the top of the box office with almost identical numbers to its opening weekend. That doesn’t happen very often, and it proves that this movie is in it for the long haul. Brett Ratner’s Tower Heist stole second place with a decent $25 million debut, but it was still a bit of a disappointment for both Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. Meanwhile A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas opened with a few million less than the previous installment, although it could end up outgrossing its predecessors eventually thanks to the holiday theme. Paranormal Activity 3 and In Time rounded out the top 5, and Moneyball is still hanging around in the top 10 after 7 weeks. How will things shake down with Immortals and Jack and Jill opening next weekend?

1. Puss in Boots — $33M
2. Tower Heist — $25.1M
3. A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas — $13.1M
4. Paranormal Activity 3 — $8.53M
5. In Time — $7.7M
6. Footloose — $4.55M
7. Real Steel — $3.41M
8. The Rum Diary — $2.99M
9. The Ides of March — $2M
10. Moneyball — $1.9M

  • With the two particular movies you named openning this weekend, I’d love it if next weeks Top Ten looked EXACTLY the same as this weeks. That’s right, shut those two movies OUT.
