Bond 23 Officially Announces Title and Cast; Starts Production Next Week

Update: Added the first look at the movie’s logo and a video embed of the full press conference.
It’s official: the 23rd James Bond movie is finally happening and cameras are set to start rolling this coming Monday, November 7th. EON Productions, MGM and Sony Pictures held a press conference this morning to announce the start of production and to reveal some early details from the project. While there were no major surprises, it has certainly helped to generate excitement after months of rumours and speculation. The movie is called Skyfall and, as previously announced, it will be directed by Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Road to Perdition). Read on for a full cast list and a brief plot synopsis.
The script for Skyfall was written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan (no Paul Haggis this time around), and the story is described as follows:
“In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”
Does this mean Bond and M will finally hook up? One can only hope. Daniel Craig will once again reprise his role as James Bond and Dame Judi Dench will play M. The cast also includes Javier Bardem (the new villain), Naomie Harris, Berenice Marlohe, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw. It’s also interesting to note that Roger Deakins, who previously collaborated with Mendes on Jarhead and Revolutionary Road, will be the Director of Photography. Skyfall hits theatres in the UK and Ireland on October 26th, 2012 and in North America on November 9th. Are you looking forward to a new Bond movie? Can Sam Mendes make up for Quantum of Solace?
