Monday Morning Box Office Report: Puss in Boots Walks All Over Paranormal Activity 3

It would appear that, even around Halloween, horror films simply have nothing on family-friendly CG-animated fare, as the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots easily knocked Paranormal Activity 3 off the top spot at the box office. It opened to $34 million, just under half of what the last Shrek movie debuted to, but it was still more than enough to win the weekend. Paranormal Activity 3 dropped a frightening 65% in its second weekend to take $18.5 million. Meanwhile, the Justin Timberlake sci-fi thriller In Time earned a lukewarm $12 million in its first weekend and Footloose dropped to #4. As for The Rum Diary, it opened at #5 but proved that even Johnny Depp has a few box office duds as it opened to just $5 million on over 2000 screens. Looks like they should have stuck to a limited release with this one.
