Matt Damon to Team with John Krasinski on Directorial Debut

Matt Damon has been looking to join acting pals like George Clooney and Ben Affleck in the director’s club. A few months ago, we learned that he was attached to helm Father Daughter Time for Warner Bros., but now there’s word that another project has taken precedence over it. The new film is an untitled legal drama that centers on “a salesman who arrives in a small town only to have his whole life called into question.” To give some idea of the tone, the film is described to be in the vein of Erin Brockovich. Damon will also star in and co-write the screenplay with The Office star John Krasinski, who developed the story with author Dave Eggers. Krasinski will also appear in the film, although no role has been specified as of yet. Father Daughter Time is still in the cards for Damon, but the legal drama should come first with a spring start.

Hearing that Matt Damon is moving into directing doesn’t come across as much of a surprise compared to other actors who try their hand behind the camera. Between his writing and producing credits – plus the fact that he’s worked with so many talented filmmakers over the years – directing seems like a natural progression. Krasinski represents more of a wild card for this project. Even though he’s written and directed before, his forays into film have usually not been the greatest (too many generic rom-coms spring to mind). Still, I’m interested to see what he and Damon deliver with this. What are your thoughts on Matt Damon taking his first stab at directing? Do you think this project could help Krasinski break out in the film world?
