Piranha 3DD DDDelayed to 2012

Well I think we all saw this coming. Piranha 3DD, the upcoming sequel to Alexandre Aja’s surprise hit Piranha 3D, will no longer hit theatres before the end of the year. Up until this week, the movie had been scheduled for release on November 23rd and was set to go up against a trio of holiday blockbusters in The Muppets, Hugo and Arthur Christmas. It definitely seemed like a strange time to release a campy horror flick, especially when you consider that there were some pre-Halloween slots in October that would have made a lot more sense. Unfortunately, as Shock Till You Drop reports, Piranha 3DD has since disappeared from the release calendar and is now expected to hit theatres sometime in 2012.
There has been no word on the reason for the delay, and in fact, this is not the first time Piranha 3DD has been pushed back. It was originally slated for September release, but got bumped to November at the same time that The Weinstein Company shifted around a few other movies including Apollo 18. The movie is being directed by John Gulager (Feast), who is not known for being the easiest guy to work with.
Clearly fans are still pretty excited for this movie, and a fan-made poster recently turned up online masquerading as the real thing (the grammatical errors and design credit probably should have given it away). The cast includes Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Chris Zylka, David Koechner, Meagan Tandy, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and yes, David Hasselhoff. What do you think, is the delay a bad sign? We’ll have more info on the new release date as soon as it becomes available.
