Clint Eastwood Returns to Acting in Trouble with the Curve

Clint Eastwood has stayed busy behind the camera over the past decade, but not so much in front of it. Throughout the 2000s he acted in only four films, and at one point he claimed that his role in Gran Torino might be his last. Thankfully for cinephiles, Eastwood has found another part that will allow him to showcase his curmudgeonly demeanor. He’s currently in negotiations to star in Trouble with the Curve, which tells the story of an aging baseball scout who is losing his vision. Together with his daughter, he takes one last road trip to Atlanta to scout a hotshot prospect. While Eastwood would star in the film, he won’t be taking on directorial duties this time out. That job will instead belong to Robert Lorenz, a long-time business partner to Eastwood as well as an assistant director on some of his previous films. Eastwood’s production company, Malpaso, will produce the Randy Brown-scripted project.

Although the brief description sounds like the film could be loaded with cliches and sentimentality, I’m still happy to hear Eastwood will be on screen again. After all, nobody plays a grumpy old man quite like he can. As far as the other lead role, there won’t be a decision on which actress will play the daughter until Eastwood and Lorenz’s deals are finalized. This project has most likely taken the place of Eastwood’s A Star Is Born remake, which is currently on hold due to star Beyonce’s pregnancy. That could be just as well since I wasn’t too excited about the prospect of a musical from The Man with No Name. Are you excited to hear about Eastwood’s return to acting, or would you rather he stay behind the camera at this point in his career?
