Monday Morning Box Office Report: Dolphin Tale By a Nose

It was a surprise upset at the box office this past weekend as Dolphin Tale managed to swim by The Lion King to claim victory, while Moneyball maintained the #2 position with the help of some strong word of mouth. The Lion King dropped to #3, but unfortunately none of the weekend’s new releases were able to draw a crowd as 50/50, Courageous and Dream House all stalled out at approximately $8 million. Rom-com What’s Your Number? did slightly worse, debuting at #8 with just $5.6 million. At least Kevin Smith should feel better knowing that Zack and Miri Make a Porno no longer has the lowest opening weekend for a Seth Rogen film. Was the world just not ready for a comedy about cancer? Look for the box office to return to life next weekend as Real Steel and The Ides of March enter the ring.
